Bepin De Eto’s Faè wins Grand Gold

21.06.13

A Grand Gold Medal and two Silver Medals for Bepin De Eto. The 2013 Selezione del Sindaco international wine contest, now in its twelfth year, awarded the prestigious Gran Medaglia d’Oro d’Italia to Bepin De Eto’s Faè, which achieved a score of 92.50/100. Faè represents a piece of history with its roots in centuries past and interwoven with the greenery of the hills of San Pietro di Feletto, between Venice and Cortina. From the Latin faetum, beech wood, Faè is both a wine and a place. Where there were once thick woods of beech trees at the time of the Republic of Venice, now the eye takes in the gentle waves of the vineyards that produce this white passito. Two other Bepin De Eto wines also made an honourable showing to win Silver Medals: Manzoni Colli Trevigiani IGT, which scored 86.25/100 and Greccio Rosso Colli di Conegliano DOCG, 86.20/100. The purpose of the competition, promoted by the Associazione Nazionale Città del Vino and the only international contest approved by the Italian Ministry for Agriculture and the OIV, Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin, is to award prizes to quality wines (DOCG, DOC and IGT) and their areas of origin. A perfect synergy between public and private, with the mayor acting as an ambassador for the wines of his/her municipality. This year, as in past years, over 1200 wines entered the competition and were judged by a group of 80 wine experts and journalists from Italy and several other countries such as the United States, Russia, South Korea, etc. The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on July 9 in the Sala della Protomoteca, on the Capitoline Hill in Rome, where the mayors and wine producers will, together, receive their medals.
